A SIX FOOT three tonne concrete crusher has been stolen

A SIX FOOT, three tonne concrete crusher has been stolen from a demolition site in Altrincham and it’s owners are offering a reward for its return.

The theft of the hydraulic grab, which is worth £18,000, from Oakfield House on Oakfield Road at the weekend has left the owners of the family-run business Palmer Demolition devastated.

It is believed the theft took place between midnight on Saturday January 8 and midday the next day.

Ken Palmer, 57, who inherited the Salford-based demolition company from his father who set it up in 1946, said the theft had been a real blow.

Stealing the huge claw-shaped piece of equipment wouldn’t have been an easy job and Ken and his wife Glynis, 57, believe it was taken by someone who knew what they were doing.

The fenced site was left locked at 12.30pm on Saturday, with the grab and arm wedged under a hydraulic excavator, which was locked and fitted with steel shutters Glynis said the thief would have had to start the engine on the hydraulic excavator to release the grabber and then load it onto a wagon to drive away.

“This could not have been a quick job and we would appeal to anyone who saw anything to get in touch, we can’t do the work without it,” she said.

This isn’t the first time the couple have been targeted by thieves, five years ago they had a similar piece of equipment stolen from a site in Salford and then last year there was another theft at a site in Lymm.

Now they are worried that their insurance won’t cover them for the latest theft.

“We’d really appreciate it if anyone has any information and we are offering a reward if they do,” Ken said and asked people to contact him on 0161 925 0000.

Constable Paul Grundy said: “We want to hear from anyone who has information about who might be responsible or who has perhaps been approached with a view to buying the equipment."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7530, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
